To your point, you have to get the right tools. Also, they cannot only be at home or "isolated", they need to join a Co-op and have to do other interests. I wanted my kids to play sports so we made that happen. Then my younger kids got into doing plays at a youth academy (they go "at least" (usually more as you get closer to performance) once per week and perform every 9 weeks).
