right. Example: Anae vs Doman
Anae had a long track record of experience and success as an assistant coach before getting a promotion to OC. All-in-all, he has been a good OC (some think a little better some think he's just so-so). Consistency is one of his greatest strengths. 2010 was the only real down year he had and with the situation they had, anyone would be hard pressed to get good results. Brand new OL, dual QB situation (one was a freshman, the other lacked the physical tools or ability to make all the throws and didn't appear to be much of a student of the game or his craft), missing Harvey Unga, brand new WR/TEs, etc.

Doman had a short run as a QB Coach with some mixed opinions on how good he was as the QBC from a technical pov before he got the OC job. Was he a terrible OC? The offense averaged less than 30 pts a game during his time which isn't good. It never seemed like his "Nitro" offense really clicked but then his starters were Riley Nelson and Jake Heaps working behind a new OL. What percent of their failings as QB fall on his shoulders for lack of development? How about with regards to 4 star prospects that never panned out like James Lark or Jason Munns?

It's easy to say Doman stunk as OC (he was an excellent recruiter however) but I think he's somewhat of an enigma. Given more time and more stable players at key positions and maybe he would've eventually had better results (GIGO) but isn't that part of the risk of bringing in someone who lacks experience at that position? They lack the knowledge and experience to make the best of a challenging situation during a rebuilding year?

Otoh, an ultra experienced Norm Chow was the OC at Utah one year (2011) and had a broken down Jordan Wynn (who could barely throw the ball 30-40 yds) or a DII QB in Jon Hays. They only averaged 25 pts a game on offense that year but he made their QB's into good game managers and retooled the offense to minimize their opportunities for mistakes and make the best of that situation.

I think clearly experience in general matters.
