IMHO, BYU declined under Reid, because he had something against star athletes. I can't get inside his head and tell you why, but he could not get along with certain star basketball players and at least one of those recommended to Burgess that he sign elsewhere.

It did drive some fans nuts that whenever it seemed Shawn Bradley would go on a tear during his Freshman year and the crowd was in a frenzy, Reid subbed him out. It was weird. And no, it had nothing to do with Bradley's notorious foul trouble.

I always found it interesting Ainge absolutely loved Reid, because I know several players loathed him. And no, I don't know Shawn Bradley and have no idea how he felt about Reid. I'm not talking about Bradley. But I think it is safe to say overall Bronco bonded with his players better than Reid did. Bronco's recruiting has not declined like it did under Reid, but it hasn't exactly improved much either.
