Of course there is
It's like picking the reason the stock market goes down or up. There are 100,000 reasons, many of which can't even be known to the public. But some are bigger than others.

Look, I really am a Bronco fan. Of all possible scenarios, I would prefer that Bronco is the one to lead us back to greatness. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't put him in the top 50 of active head coaches...and I love BYU and want BYU to have a top 50 coach. I want BYU to have a top 5 coach.

So one of two things must happen for BYU to get there. 1) Bronco becomes a great head coach, or 2) Bronco leaves and we hire a great head coach.

I am not one of those who believes that by now we know #1 can't happen. I think Bronco is willing to change, and has changed quite a bit over his coaching tenure. (Just look at his bad coordinator hires. Each one was an overreaction to the last one.) More than anything else Bronco wants to win while doing it the right way and is absolutely willing to change to get there. He hasn't figured it out yet. To be fair, by definition, being one of the best is very, very difficult to do.

However, after ten years, I am no longer willing to dismiss option #2. Bronco must do better than this season in order to renew his contract, IMO. And this season was his best chance. The cards are stacked against great success the next two years. But...Bronco seems to do his best work with the cards stacked against him. It will be intriguing...
