and then worked at Skadden after graduating. She worked long hours and dealt with very difficult personalities. She learned a lot and they ultimately allowed her to work from home when they moved from LA. She had an ambivalent relationship with it. My BIL currently works for Big Law after clerking. He loves it, or at least the money and notoriety and his wife is the same way. It takes a certain type to really appreciate it. He works long hours and is willing to do whatever to make it. He went Big Law after clerking for several judges. I have a friend who is now a judge. He could have gone Big Law and had several classmates who did. He hated practicing, but loves being a judge. He actually is a very good judge and I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up, but he is enjoying himself so much that he may stay where he is. My personal opinion is that if you love long hours and difficult personalities and your wife is one board, then do Big Law, but don't go into it with the plan to leave after a couple of years as it has somewhat blackballed LDS in the industry from what I've heard. If you want to make pretty good money, but have a good home life, do a smaller firm or at least leave Utah or possibly get a corporate gig if you can. Just my 2 cents.
