It does not matter where you clerk if its Federal Appellate...
You can go wherever you want. The skill, resume, and connection are considered fairly transferrable. The main thing is that you are clerking on the Circuit. It will forever follow you. Congratulations!

Yes it is common to receive solicitations from firms if you are in a federal clerkship. Ideally people will look at you for your appellate expertise in the Circuit where you are clerking. However, like I said, big L.A. law firm isn't going to blink if you clerked on the 2nd Circuit and you want to work in L.A. They understand that you take the clerkship offered you.

Further your appellate clerkship is going to help you get into the DOJ or other Fed division of your choice down the road.

Just boardmail me to get further advice but you are on an Interstate right now it seems to me and you got lots of options as to where you want and can go practice.
