My impression is that it happens, but very rarely. They want people with trial experience and can afford to be picky. Depending on location, they can be looking at several hundred to 1000 applications for a position.

Maybe, but for many people the type of law you'll be doing in DC>SLC.

They do recruit, but there are not so many openings that getting a big market

Yes, they are . . . you typically need several years as a federal prosecutor
