I had an appointment w/ my hair stylist over the weekend. She was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Salt Lake City 3 years ago because of her husband's job. I have only been seeing her for a while now so we are still getting to know each other. She asked if I was a Football fan and I said I was. She asked if I was a Ute fan and I told her that I was a BYU fan. She told me she grew up her entire life as a USC fan. Her and her family have attended USC games since she was a child. She said when she moved to SLC, she planned to route for USC and the Utes.

Well, her father came into town for the USC game last year at RES. She said she was appalled at how her 70 year old dad was treated by the Utah fans. She said he was called every name in the book, screamed at and generally just treated like crap! She said that they were also harassed by the fans on the Trax on the way to and from the game.

She said that her entire family was completely disgusted by it and that they have attended several USC road games throughout her life and have never experienced such hateful and vulgar fans. She went from being willing to cheer on the Utes as her new home town team to a point where now she cannot stand them and hopes they lose every single game.

I told her how funny it was because the Utah Fans behaving badly had been reduced to a myth by the Utah media. Everyone claims that BYU fans make up the fact that their fanbase can be brutal on opposing fans. She had heard the same but now knows it is true and says it was by far and away the worst fan base she has ever experienced.
