I did sit in the utah student section once with my wife right after we were
married. My sister, at that time going to school at Utah, got me tix. We didn't want to cause any issues for ourselves, so we kept our coats on to not stand out too much. When BYU did well we clapped quietly and quickly, but never stood or cheered at all. We got spit on a number of times through that game, had a couple drinks thrown at us as well. That on top of the constant swearing, yelling and taunting through the whole game.

Luckily is was the game when Kaneshiro hit the uprights and for about 30 second both sets of fans thought they'd won. That gave us a chance to scoot out really quick before everyone became aware of what had happened.

I've been to RES a few times for games. Sometimes it was pretty tame (depending on where we were helped) and sometimes we've been totally bombarded with religious slurs and garbage thrown our way. It's a mixed bag - depending on the route you take to the stadium, how much you stand out, and where you sit.
