The more I think about it, the more I realize that the Star ratings will never mean as much to BYU as it will to teams..
Inside the top 10 in recruiting rankings. BYU will never be in the running for a majority of 4 and 5 Star recruits. Sure BYU will get a 4 or 5 Star LDS kids occasionally but I think people put way to much stalk in the Star ratings.

Consider the following story.

http://usatodayhss.com/2017/think-super-bowl-li-is-filled-with-mostly-four-and-five-star-recruits-think-again

Here is the most interesting passage.

"Of the projected starters on both the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons, only nine were either four- or five-star recruits. Not only that, but 37 percent of the game’s prospective starters weren’t ranked in the top 1,000 players in their recruiting class."

With this in mind, BYU would be just a well served BYU trying to identify 2 and 3 Star guys who have potential as it would to pursue a bunch of 4 and 5* recruits that they may or may not half as much of a chance at signing.

I'm not saying don't go after the 4 and 5 Star recruits, just the reality is that BYU will never get enough 4 and 5 Star recruits and a single draft that would put them in a perennial top 10 position, becoming adept at identifying and Mining those hidden gems. And it looks like that may already be happening since some of kalani's targets, once he starts recruiting them comma are pursued by the likes of Utah and even other schools.

And while I was a Bronco fan, I think he looked more for guys that played with the tremendous heart first and talents second. This is why I think BYU Hubbard around the 8 win mark over the last several years. Wall BYU did have some Talent at certain positions, the talent Gap became painfully obvious when playing power 5 schools.

Just my two cents.
