If you had the top LDS recruits, you would have about the #15 best recruiting
class every year.
If anything, BYU needs to focus on the high end LDS talent that continues to pump out more blue chip level recruits.
I would take the correlation of the #15 ranked recruiting class with final AP rankings any day over the proverbial hunting for Diamonds in the rough that end up on superbowl rosters, we had that method already with Bronco recruiting.
If the NFL was littered with LDS diamonds in the rough, I might agree with you, but the majority of LDS NFL players didn't take the path through BYU and were rated 3* or higher, that is where BYU should be focused.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that the Star ratings will never mean as much to BYU as it will to teams..
