As one of the few polynesian head coaches, he has a unique insight into polynesian players - particularly into how they grow and mature going into their high school and college years. He can thus recognize young players who may not turn heads yet, but who he knows are likely to grow into their skills.
Also, Ed Lamb has a very good record with developing players. Mike Empey, as well, is a great technician, and I think he's going to develop a bunch of O-linemen into the NFL. Remember, as tight ends coach 6 of his tight ends during his first stint at BYU played in the NFL.
