Here's my solution:

AAC seeks to expand, to bury the MWC, and to solidify its "P6" case. The AAC wants BYU as part of the mix, but it's just not enough to entice the Cougars out of independence. San Diego St., Boise St., and Air Force are intrigued by the AAC, but can't seem to make it work with Olympic sports relegated to the Big West.

SO, BYU orchestrates a full western expansion for the AAC's Olympic sports. BYU and Gonzaga leave the WCC for the new AAC West division, along with San Diego St., Boise St., Air Force, and either UNLV or Colorado St. from the MWC.

This enables SDSU, Boise, and Air Force (and UNLV/CSU?) to send football to the expanded AAC. The expanded AAC affiliates with BYU and Army for some scheduling and bowl relationships and to help further solidfy its P6 branding. BYU gets a little help with late season football schedule and greatly improved postseason scenario with access to several enjoyable bowl games in nice venues against other P6 opponents. BYU enjoys an upgrade to a MAJOR conference for basketball, retaining the Gonzaga rivalry and adding back SDSU and some other MWC foes, while adding the likes of Wichita St., Memphis, Tulsa, SMU, Houston, UConn, Cincinnati, etc. to the basketball schedule.
