As we consider the potential breakup of the ACC, it's worth looking at where various teams bring value. There's more detailed methodology at the bottom, the basic idea is that I looked at 4 factors

• TV Viewership
• On-Field Success
• Game Attendance
• Population within 100 miles

Obviously there are other factors which can play a role for specific conferences - expansion (or redundancy) of geographic area, religious affiliations, academics, culture etc - but this should be a pretty good idea of where various ACC (and other) teams stand in relaignment value - though I should note this is based on football alone.  There's only a few schools (Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina for example) that bring notable value from basketball, which is not accounted for here.

A score of 100 would Alabama on the field and on TV (or Ohio St) with 110k plus (Michigan) at the stadium each week and in a metro the size of New York

A score of 7.5 would be the on-field success of UNLV, the viewership of UTSA and the attendance of Tulane in a market the size of Boise St.

Notes on methodology

Each factor was scored such that the top performer received a score of 25 and a respectable score was set to be worth 10 in a given category

• For Viewership, this was 2M in rated games
• For On-Field Performance, this was 5.5 wins against an opponent-controlled schedule of 1 FCS, 2 G5, 3 poor P5, 3 medium P5, 3 strong P5
• For Attendance, this was 52k
• For market size, we used the square root of the population and a population of 2M earned a score of 10
