The Big Ten, in particular, has stated alumni size factors into their criteria
Love the analysis! Obviously it's an overly simplistic view, but I appreciate the thought process.

Other similar valuations I've seen also factor in "Revenue" but I think that would artificially elevate P5 schools since a non-insignificant % of their revenue comes from being a member of a P5 conference...between TV, bowl, CFP, etc. It isn't derived from the school's inherent value.

One could also argue that TV viewership is also skewed upwards towards members of P5 conferences b/c they inherently get better channels and slots. For instance, BYU has only been an afternoon network game a handful of times over the last 10 years (where they have underperformed in terms of viewership) but has been the late night ESPN/ESPN2 game many times (where they have overperformed); but the floor/ceiling for those are very different. 1.5M viewers (like ASU/Utah in 2021) for those late games CB hates is an amazing number; but 2.4M (Boise State the same season; I don't recall the Oregon viewership) for an afternoon network game isn't great.

Basically, evaluating programs for expansion/realignment is a complicated thing; and different conferences approach it in different ways. I appreciate you trying to give CB a baseline so we can get past the "Utah adds nothing" headline. Clearly they bring SOMETHING and are more valuable than many other candidates.

If nothing else, it gives you an idea where teams might rank next to each other. It might be slightly off, but team #60 here isn't going to actually be the 20th most valuable team; neither is the #20 team here going to truly be 60th most valuable...
