While they tended to have some loyalty to the local schools, BYU was known, supported and endorsed.
Going to BYU was seen as something special and unique. Supporting BYU was a no brainer... it is the Church's school, so of course the member's support it. This notion that somehow BYU and the Church are separate is a wacky Yewt idea created to make them feel better about themselves.
