I think Texas is putting on a full court press to get Notre Dame. I can't speak to their odds of success, but the 2-year commitment by BYU tracks a bit with a scenario I've heard down here.

One scenario I've heard floated by people who claim Big 12 school sources is that the Big 12 (i.e. Texas) is pushing hard for Notre Dame, hoping to snag them in 2013, when their deal runs out with the Big East. Notre Dame could put all their sports in the Big 12 and keep their TV deal with NBC until 2015.

While everything indicates the Big 12 would like to have BYU asap, BYU could fulfill a two-year promise to the WCC and also join in 2013, keeping its TV deal with ESPN until 2015 as well.

In 2015, ABC/ESPN's deal for primary TV rights expires with the Big 12. Most feel ABC/ESPN will have the inside track to renew that deal because of their strong affiliation with the Longhorns. In 2015, a new TV arrangement could be worked out between ABC/ESPN, Fox and the Big 12 to allow UT, ND & BYU (and actually all Big 12 schools with that desire) the flexibility they'd need to be happy in a conference.

I'd heard from a pretty good source (actually 2 sources) down here that BYU's acceptance to the Big 12 depended on another school. I felt at that time and still feel that the other school referenced is Notre Dame.

As long as Notre Dame remains an indy, I think it's likely BYU does, too.
