I am a fan of the team. I may not agree with some things that go on, but if I stopped being a fan due to a decision the admin made, I would have to question my fandom to begin with. It borders on fans jumping on and off the bandwagon based on # of wins the team has.
A lot was shown by fans that stuck by BYU during the Crowton years, versus the number of Utah "fans" that shot up like a rocket on 2004 and 2008.
