First you can just cut that 4.5 million by about 80%, as that is probably how many that actually are avid college sports fan. Out of every 10 people I know, when you include wives, kids, friends---maybe 2 out of 10 watch sports to begin with.
So you're already under a million.
Now how many of those are even BYU fans? Most wards I have been in out of state, there are always BYU fans, but it has never been the majority.
There is no fan base that props up it's numbers and importance like BYU.
More fans than Utah, sure.
Some big time national player, not even close.
