What little backbone there may have been is gone...
...on this Hill.

The Utes have dutifully done everything asked of them. I understand their position, but at the same time I am glad to be a part of a University that stands apart.

Somehow the Utes want everybody to believe their hands are tied. They look silly continually trying to "explain" the difficult position they are in. They are the neighbor girl next door you did everything with until she wanted to be popular and she acted like she didn't know you when her new friends are around.

If Utah wished to continue the rivalry, they could.

The rivalry simply may not mean that much to them at this point. I suspect this may be a little game of chicken and they are hoping BYU flinches first, but if not oh well.

That said, the "reasons" are funny... To think somehow an every other year game in Provo creates some kind of hardship or dent in the Utes revenue is honestly funny and may make sense to a gas station attendant. Sure we are all happy you got into the PAC12, but now you are justified in making demands of your old partners? Especially when those demands benefit only you?

Anyway, I learned long ago that it is time to move on when your "partners" no longer value your contribution. We look silly pointing fingers of blame or getting bitter. The BYU admin is much better off simply stating we will be available when they can make a home and home work. I would also do the same for Basketball to add some incentive. I would team up with Utah State and make an agreement between the big 3 that inlvolves all football and basketball or nothing. Until then, have a nice day.

In the short run, it does hurt BYU more than Utah because BYU is trying to make an indy schedule work, but the long run is a very different story. BYU has a built-in fan base that has real growth potential that has only begun to be tapped. The non-football sports are already solid at BYU and are going to a new level with the added local, national, and international exposure.

Utah is selling out to PAC12 Football, plain and simple. The partnership cannot be one-sided. BYU is not desperate and USU is not hurt much either.

Utah wants a couple more easy win home games at the expense of these local rivalries. We will see how that works out in the long run. Attendance is bad enough in non-football sports on the Hill, what will they do when the new car smell wears off and they are left with New Mexico State wins and PAC12 beatings at home. Go see the attendance at the bottom half of the PAC12 and somehow make an argument that Utah will be any different given their attendance history.

As a sidenote, the University of Arizona has 8 home and 4 away games this year. Wow. The NCAA is upside down and getting worse.
