OK, so it is "discussion". Your "discussion" goes something like this.
BYU, we would like to keep playing you but not on equal terms and not at the end of the year. BYU says they are not interested.
Then, the people in the know at Utah start making statements that it may not work because of the "situation". What we are all talking about is the realities of the situation.
It is not news that Utah's schedule is harder now. It is surprising that you will throw away your rivalry because you want more "balance".
The situation only exists because Utah wants an easier schedule and the home game and even some don't want to play BYU anymore. That is it. This is completely in Utah's hands to do or not do. This is not the PAC12 forcing you to do anything.
Would BYU do the same thing? Nope. But, the fact is we can disagree on a completely hypothetic situation. I would bet you here and now if BYU gets an invite to the BIG12 they would keep the rivalry, even when their football schedule would be waaaay harder than Utah's.
The ball is in Utah's coart. Utah wants everybody to be stupid and believe this is somehow out of their control. BYU needs to force their hand. I think BYU should ask to be treated as an equal or part ways completely in all sports. Utah is too big for it's britches right now. When they come back to reality the discussions should continue.
Also, I wonder how rational you really are when you honestly believe somehow Utah is going to be in the upper tier of the PAC12 every year. I have news for you, aint gonna happen. It wouldn't happen for BYU either. I would love to hear your argument as to why Utah will on average be better than the traditional middle tier of the PAC12 with Stanford, Cal, Washington, ASU, and UCLA. A reasonable person knows you more resemble the occasional good and bad teams of Colorado, Washington State, UoA, and Oregon State. And, you well should know the PAC12 has been down for a bit. Utah has benefited from bad football programs in the PAC12 that are restabalizing.
