Couple thoughts.
1) Well thought out comments.
2) I don't think Utah and certainly not the PAC 12, even think of BYU that much. I don't think BYU thinks about Utah that much either. They both have their own programs to worry about. Utah is not plotting to submarine BYU, they are literally just thinking of what they want to be, where they want to be and how they want to get there. The PAC certainly has not agenda about BYU. Not in the slightest of degrees. BYU is one of 100 different topics to consider and deal with. Utah is one of 100 different topics they need to consider and deal with.
3) Don't we all thing BYU will be in a conference some time soon, if the situation is such that it warrants that? BYU is not stuck in independence at all. They recently had an invite from the BIG East. There will be other invites.
4) Fans think way more about the respective rival than the actual programs ever do.
5) I just don't think anyone has it out for BYU like some of the BYU fans seem to think. Nobody made BYU go independent. BYU chose to do it. What does Utah have to gain from BYU being irrelevant? Really, nothing. Nothing at all. BYU is still going to get the players they get and Utah will get the players they get. Utah gets way more players out of state than they ever will in state. That is just increasing now.
6) The rivalry will continue, just not every season. Many teams do this. In fact in history, Utah and BYU have done this before as well.
