No one would be talking about the board of trustees or legacy donors or any of that stuff.
This stuff is all being discussed because the team is awful. Absolutely academic standards are a limitation for BYU, among many other issues, but when it’s a point of discussion just several days after BYU’s second straight G5 loss to fall to 2-4, from a former staff member who is absolutely going to defend his guys, let’s call it what it is. It’s an excuse. A valid one, sure, but an excuse nonetheless.
I’ve been around long enough to know that this stuff really only comes up when BYU is disappointing. When the blue kool-aid is flowing, it’s all talk about Heisman trophies, New Years bowl games, and QBs leaving early for the draft.
