A certain portion of CBers are all about football and not about what's best for
BYU and the overwhelming majority of its students. Lower the entry standards, get rid of the Honor Code, eliminate requiring an active Church member who understands the culture to be HC, redirect Church resources, in excess of the revenue it brings in, to build the program, all for the Holy Grail of football.
I'm a season ticket holder and passionate fan of BYU football, but I'm a bigger fan of BYU and don't buy into changing what makes this university distinctive. Football is a game and has little to do with the respect and value given to the degrees of those who graduate from here.
Get it straight: none of that is going to happen...ever. If that sinks the football program, so be it. If that really upsets your life and makes it impossible to enjoy the school's sports programs, you'll have a lot less aggravation if you go find another team to root for.
To me, it's a lot more important that BYU is a top 100 university than a top 25 football program, though I want both.
