With regard to your last sentence, they’re definitely not mutually exclusive,
as shown by the previous coaching staff that averaged what I believe to be a 30–35 ranking over a little more than a decade of similar institutional challenges.
Even the current staff has had a team start 2-1 over P5 competition with a ranked win both of the past two seasons. I’ve seen every indication the ability to put top-25 teams on the field is still there, but terrible preparation and in-game management from the coaching staff in at least three of the six games this season has us at 2-4.
