You do know that I feel the idea of canceling the BYU athletic program over public examples of smoking weed or having sex out of wedlock is silly in the extreme. Because that's what I actually stated.

Think about the repercussions of actually disbanding a nationally-recognized D-1 athletic program. How many livelihoods would be affected? Arenas and sports facilities sitting empty. The impact on campus life. How many alums would burn their ties with BYU to the ground....

You're going to take THAT step to protect an image that a good many people familiar with BYU don't really buy anyway

I realize that to many, this approach makes perfect sense. As more of a New Testament guy, I'm just not a fan. I know enough BYU folks who agree, disagree, and/or have mixed feelings. To date, we coexist well enough, united by our fandom.

I will allow this much. If the scales tip towards BYU fandom meaning support for a latter-day Torah, with severe punishment for noncompliance attached, it's harder for many to remain on board.
