season ending inteview on 700 with KW. the thing that stuck with me was a few
words about football coaching in college today:

"the #1 job of any college coach is recruiting. by far. it is the most important thing. people talk about how saban wins because he has the best players, i say 'congrats on collecting the best players'. if you don't have the players you can't compete."

i have heard him say many times that "recruiting is the lifeblood of the program". etc etc. but this time he was much more forceful. alabama is winning because of their recruits. get the players there is the first and most important job, and a lot of different guys could coach them up. KW was more forceful about the importance of recruiting in this interview than I have ever heard.

we are in recruiting in the 60s, or worse, since going indy. that's the problem. recruits don't buy that we are a pseudo p5 program. if you wanna see how we are going to finish over the next 5 years, look at our recruiting rankings. and look at the rankings of the teams we are playing in the next several septembers.

from the recruiting thread yesterday, this linked post is most depressing imo (johnnycarson, Jan 10, 2018 at 11:50am)
