Actually, I'm certain I understood what he was saying. Why? Because it really
surprised me. I thought just like you do. He posed the question something like, "Why do we have BYU? We know as leaders of the Church that proportionally, just as many active LDS at other universities will get married in the temple..."

Could he be wrong? For sure. Being a GA or Univ Pres doesn't mean he doesn't extrapolate or jump to conclusions. I'd love to see the data that proves he's wrong, though. If you have it, please share it.

In my opinion, we have some at least some evidence that he is correct. We know the Church is flush, yet they continue to hold enrollment at BYU steady. (Pres. Worthen told us in a faculty meeting a year ago that BYU-Idaho was now at their cap, so enrollment won't go up, on campus at least, at BYUI either). So, if there were strong evidence that BYU (and BYU-Idaho) significantly increased the likelihood of temple marriage, a mission, and continued activity why wouldn't they use some of the tremendous resources they have to expand enrollment? Current facilities are at capacity, but BYU owns LOTS of land near campus, including now the old Provo High, so BYU already has the necessary land.
