You aren't alone, Capricious. Research shows the two reasons teachers leave

are money and lack of respect/professional autonomy (some say one, some say the other, they are related though). You can work for cheap if you feel valued. But more in our society we are devaluing teachers and not paying them. So it makes it tough to motivate people to stay in the profession.
