...so she got discounted tuition. When she told him that she was going to get a degree in art history or something like that, he called the admissions office and told them that she wouldn't be attending and he didn't want her to get the employee discount.

Then he told her that when she came up with a degree that would actually lead to a career that paid the bills, he would call them back and she could get readmitted.

I'm not sure if he actually had the authority to do that, but today she just laughs about how dumb she was as an 18 year old - looking at degrees that were interesting or fun, but with no thought to their purpose.
