of the Church and the Football program is the most nationally visible extension of the school. Having the HC not be part of this network causes a break in the leadership chain back to the Church.
It's like driving... the State owns the road, thus owns the expense of keeping them up and thus they own the right to put up signs and speed limits. However, anyone can drive on them as long as they follow the rules. The coaches are like the "state engineers" who decide where the roads go and make those rules... the players are the cars that drive on the roads.
You can't have a engineer from another state making these roads and decisions... but there is every intent that drivers from all over come and drive on the roads.
That makes sense in my head... no doubt I'll get some "LOL"s from the CB trolls but that's cool.
With all that said, if the brass at BYU decided to change that rule... I wouldn't be upset about it.
