Yes, because the statistics show it's worth it to the insurance companies to
pay for the surgery instead of paying for all the costs associated with diabetes and heart issues down the road.

The way it worked for me was to go to a seminar one night that explained everything. My surgical place took my insurance info, checked on it for me, and got back to me to let me know it would be fully covered.

I haven't regretted having the surgery one bit. My problem was absolutely a volume one - always super hungry and ate enormous portions to keep the hunger monster at bay.

The gastric sleeve surgery apparently only became really popular and normalized several years ago.
