experience. Including:
- No introductions to fellow employees
- Instant empowerment over products and projects that I hadn't been introduced to
- An inbox full of problems with inner-office drama
- No campus tour - I finally followed a guy to drink machine for cup of diet coke
- Leaving me in my office to figure out company's product line (not all bad) and the future of those products (yep, I am going to know everything to do with products that have been on the market for many years)
- And then sending me overseas to make huge financial decisions on day 7 of my employment
I am not familiar with the term "onboarding" but I suspect if you limit the things that happened to me, you would be off to a good start. Let people plant their feet for a day or two, wrap the culture around them, show them how the company operates and makes decisions, and for heaven sakes, show them where the bathroom is. New jobs can be stressful. I'm old school and probably way out of touch when it comes to providing people a good first experience.
