I'm a big believer in a 90-day plan
At our company, each new employee gets a 90-day plan from his/her manager that lays out various onboarding items, short term goals and expectations. The managers also have regular one-on-one meetings with each direct report (at least twice a month) and they review the 90-day plan on a regular basis.
