Happened to me also - I had to pair program for 3 weeks while I waited
Although it was more than 10 years ago when I started a software engineering job. I had to endure 3 weeks without a laptop.
That was when I learned the misery of pair programming, as I had to pair with other engineers while I was without a laptop. At least it taught me what work environment I do NOT like, so that when I needed to find an engineering job 10 years later I knew to avoid the pair programming jobs (some tech companies require their engineers work in pairs.)

Make it short, <2 hours. And give QUALITY company branded stuff. Don't give crap from promotional companies.
