I've been teaching an intro class for the last several years
It's part of our onboarding process. The short-term onboarding tasks are taken care of before they come to my class. I usually get the new IT employees 1-3 months after they have joined our company. Currently it is a 2-day class. In the class we:
- Give them information about the big IT organization
- Share information about the individual, high level orgs
- Bring several executives in for 15-30 minute Q&As
- Take them on a couple hour tour of one of the factories
- Talk about all the training, learning, and career development resources available
- Have everyone in the class (usually about 15-20 in the class) share a 1-page information bio about themselves
- Do several table exercises - mostly to get them to network with others in the class and get to know each other
- Go through some of the IT technologies and standards
- Take them on a tour of our new app dev labs and environments
- Bring an experienced manager in and let the class ask any questions they want about the company, managers, etc.
- Give some of the history of the org and company so they can better understand the culture, etc of the company
- etc
- etc

This may sound like overkill, but given the huge complex company we have it's best to help them adapt. Overall the class is very well received and highly recommended for any new IT employees to take.
