Mainly because they take too long. My brain has been re-wired with the internet and I have trouble committing to it. But when I do have time or an itch to see anything there is nothing there that interests me. I just finished watching all the trailers released this week. It's all superheroes I've never heard of and fantasy/horror stuff, like evil aliens that look like cute kids.
Why is that? Was there just this huge culture of comic book and fantasy book readers 30 years ago that hollywood is milking? It's weird, I never knew any of these kids. Back in the day it was fun to see Superman and Batman re-done every 20 years, but I couldn't imagine having nothing but superhero movies weekly. Seems like it would have cheapened the deal.
What ever happened to films like Out of Africa, Man from Snowy River, Rain Man, The Untouchables, Field of Dreams, Back to the Future, Uncle Buck.....just anything not comic book or fantasy sci-fi?
Obviously Hollywood is about making money, and they will chase these dollars, but why is it that modern society loves these films to the extent they do? It genuinely makes me wonder. All the trailers look the same, same explosions, same banter, same jokes, same music.
What is the reason for all this? Did dramas all move to Netflix or cable? Is cinema strictly for the explosions and green screen stuff now?
Was there just this culture of kids 20-30 years ago reading and fantasizing about obscure superheroes that I never knew existed?
