One thing that has also affected filmmaking is cable television
So much more storytelling is being invested in television today than in 1988. Better stories, more complex characters, and more money is being poured into television, and they’re drawing the biggest names in Hollywood. You just didn’t see Academy Award winning actors go on to star in TV series like you see today. That shift has affected how movies are written and what stars they can get.
