One thing I find baffling is why movies are so much longer today
Just looking at your list, in 1988, those averaged 107 minutes. In 2018, that top ten averaged 125 minutes. Maybe the cost isn’t significantly higher to make a movie 17% longer, but it tends to bring in more money? I dunno. It seems like you’d want to tell the best story in the shortest amount of time to get the best bang for your buck.
