I actually enjoy most of the comic book/super hero movies as well...
I pretty well see all of them so it isn’t as if I don’t get why someone would see them and like them. That wasn’t really the point. The point is that it has become a way of life for a pretty large group of people, they actually think that comic books, super hero’s, and movies about them are important and matter in life rather than just being entertainment. They plan their lives around this stuff to some degree and wait for the next one to be released as if it matters to the fate of the world and humanity. They live for a fantasy.

And these are not like films or novels that are studies in character or philosophies, they aren’t even art for the sake of art. There is nothing of real import to any of them, they are simply entertainment and entertainment for entertainments sake is just fine but many of these people believe that they are important rather than just entertaining.

And you can see it in how they are now trying to introduce themes into them that reflect current social justice values and other such fluff and treat it as if it has important reflections on society.

Like I said I enjoy a good superhero movie as much as anyone, but I much prefer a good character study or historical drama or even a comedy. We are getting far fewer of those. Maybe that does make it so that when I see one of those types of movies I enjoy it even more. For instance the two movies I enjoyed most over the last few months were “The Green Book” and “The Upside”. They both just had more that made you think, I was able to get more emotionally invested in the characters.
