starts to be cool to play football. Some return, some never come back. On my son's teams, it was often the best 1-2 players who wanted something else. There can be a second wave around high school. I think the other big problem is that you never get the really raw talent on many teams. Club soccer is such an expensive sport in most areas. In other countries, soccer starts as a game on the street. You will never see that in the US. My son has played against all hispanic club teams and there you actually have some of that raw street talent which when molded with good coaching is really fun to watch. Also weird when the whole other team speak spanish and none of your players do.
I like the sport and would love to see it succeed on a the international stage. I'm sure there are development issues all along the way but no one (except you) can deny that having the best athletes start at a very young age and continue to the highest levels would help the US tremendously on the international stage.
