I understand your argument about the American system not developing the skills like other countries. If you say that’s the majority of the problem, ok sure.
But to say the fact that soccer is only the 4th or 5th most popular sport doesn’t impact the success of US soccer is crazy.
For arguments sake let’s accept your premise that it takes a different type of athlete to be successful in FB vs Soccer. So you have a kid that has the potential to be a really good soccer player. Maybe even MLS type potential. Problem is, he didn’t grow up dreaming of playing in the MLS. He grew up dreaming of playing football. And all his friends play football. So he didn’t play soccer much, if at all. Instead he plays football.
Yes, soccer is losing athletes to football, and other sports. Athletes that could be really good soccer players.
