You can say that the timing was great for Utah. But also have to acknowledge that the timing was horrendous for BYU - and it wasn't just because BYU wasn't going undefeated in football. Nothing Tom could've done would've undone what the church leadership was doing at the time (and I say this without any judgement as to whether it was right or wrong. But it wasn't good if you look at it through the lense of BYU possibly being invited to the PAC10.)
