Yes, their TV contract is better than the MWC but not better than BYU's Indy contract. The travel would have killed BYU especially for non-revenue sports. Football schedules would be much less interesting than Indy schedules. BYU would have not been on TV as much. The CLOSEST AAC school is over 1100 miles away. None of the schools are in our best recruiting areas. How does playing in that conference help? Can't see it at all.
Also, the AAC's top programs are all looking to jump to P5 conferences. If that happens, then what? BYU is locked into a conference with East Carolina, Tulane, Memphis, Tulsa, and SMU. No thanks.
BYU was hurt most by staying in the MWC too long with the way we were getting hosed by the other member schools.
Edit: Closest AAC school is now Wichita St which is ONLY 1000 miles from Provo. Thank goodness they added that hotspot to the conference.
