RE: Well my son’s baseball season is over and so is my managerial career.
That’s rough. I coached one year and have some background in baseball. It was the kids just out of tee ball. Machine pitch. My experience was 9/10 if I took the parents out. Probably 3/10 with the parents. Some were great, some were ok, and a few were really bad. My goal was to teach kids how to play baseball by working on basic skills and hope for the best. I held strong several didn’t like it. They just wanted me to play games for practice, no work on skills. Games started rough, but I kept working on skills during practice. 2 parents were very vocal. They didn’t like anything I did. Where I played their kid, batting order, practices, one thing one lady really didn’t like was that I didn’t bully the umpires (15 year old kids) to get more calls.

One lady wanted her son to play 3rd base. He couldn’t throw, catch or field a ground ball. During the games she would say stuff about me Just loud enough so I could hear. After the game she would stand out side the dugout as kids were leaving pointing at them and say, he’s better than him, he’s better than him etc. to almost every kid. Then want to talk to me to tell me all I was doing was wrong. Sad thing was her kid would cry during practice and games because she was so hard on him. He said he didn’t even want to play 3rd because he was scared of the ball. I put him in the out field and he improved a ton. He liked it but his mom questioned me on it every game.

We ended up tying for second place behind a team that was stacked and won every game (that was another what’s wrong with some little leagues that I won’t go into). I made mistakes and would do some things different if I coached again. Some parents even apologized to me and thanked me for teaching their kids how to play. But that lady ripped on me till I drove off after the last game.

My 2nd son was old enough to play the next year so I just helped their coaches rotating between practices for both.

I thought I would like coaching, but parents made it not worth it to me.
