Agreed.

For this reason, I know the traditional burnt ends are supposed to be just with the point, but I will cut up the whole brisket (point and flat), and prepare it like burnt ends. You will thank me later and it is hard to ever mess it up.

Not ruined if you smoke it to 115-120, reverse sear it until medium rare, and then top it with black pepper sauce.

A good rub tends to complement the beef flavor, while a bbq sauce tends to overpower it IMO.
