Most hospitals will write off the added expense for those ER visits. However,

IHC hospitals (of which UVRMC is part of) are notorious for NOT doing that. According to my BIL who is an ER nurse and has worked for a few different hospital systems here in the state, IHC is the only hospital system in the state that actually balance bills like that for ER visits.

But what does the term "negotiated price" mean in that case? It would imply the doctor agreed to it.

The ER group has a meeting every 5 years or so with the insurer. They negotiate what the insurer will pay for each
