Yes, do. Tell them what happened, show them the documentation. Even without that
they will usually work with you. I received a surprise ER bill a couple of years ago, and well over a year since the treatment. I called and said I couldn't pay their charge. Without hesitation they dropped it by half.

With documentation, yours should drop to zero.
