ER a few years ago. We were in Utah on vacation and my wife had to go to the ER.

Had military medical insurance (tricare), and my wife went in for something (was told by her normal doctor back at our duty station to go in if this issue came up). Tricare paid for it but we started to get letters from Utah Valley to collect the difference from what tricare paid and what Utah Valley hospital wanted to charge.

I don't know if your insurance has this weight, but our tricare rep told us to call that bill collection department for Utah Valley and tell them if they continue to harass us with bill collection the hospital will lose their federal accreditation. The poor guy on the other end immediately put us on hold and talked to their manager. He apologized for the letters and will stop trying to collect the difference.

Didn't receive another letter or call from them.
