I’ve certainly had realtors openly steer me away from FSBO homes
Like actually telling me that they would only show them if we couldn’t find a realtor represented home that we liked.
So that part of the story sounds plausible to me, and I can think of some things that might get said short of actually saying it that would imply less desire to show FSBO homes. As for the rest of it, I suspect you are right that it is being overblown.
